As a council, we are bringing together key agencies, voluntary organisations and stakeholders to act as a collective voice and to champion the promotion of healthy and active ageing as people grow older.
The question, 'How old is older' is often asked. While we use the Governments standard of age 50 and over, we recognise that there are significant differences in the health status, participation and levels of dependence among older people of the same age. Therefore, our focus is not on people's chronological age but rather, the notion that people are living longer yet leave working life well before retirement age.
With this in mind, we want to help people remain active in work, leisure, volunteering or learning as they grow older and for society to value their continuing contribution whether at age 50, 75 or 90.
