People in Northamptonshire obviously care about being safe. In surveys and crime audits people tell us they want to feel safe and they want us to take action to take their county safe.
The public are aware that the police are there to detect and solve crime. However, local authorities also have a key role to play in the prevention of crime and disorder. Many of the services of the county council can get beneath tackling the symptoms of crime and actually tackle the causes of crime and disorder by finding long term solutions. This is reinforced by the county council's statutory duty under section 17 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 to ensure Community Safety is embedded as part of our core business.
The county council has therefore, recently developed its first Community Safety Strategy which directly supports the Northamptonshire Community Strategy, the Local Area Agreement, the seven Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership Strategies and the Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy for Northamptonshire.
The strategy outlines what the County Council are doing to reduce crime and create safer communities and what our priorities are.. It is aimed to provide a clear and transparent picture for our partners and services and has been produced following consultation with our communities and partners.
