Through our consultation processes we are aware that residents consider that the county council should focus on tackling crime. The British Crime Surveys have also told us that being a victim of crime and 'fear of crime' can have a major effect on people;s quality of life. Those who offend impact on the potential of their lives and on the quality of the lives of those around them.
Essentially the role of the county council in respect of community safety can be summed up as follows:-
- Ensure that all council services continue to develop to meet our responsibilities under Section 17 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998
- Co-ordinate contributions to community safety activity across boundaries and services
- Facilitate strategic partnerships, giving vision and direction to community safety activity
- Identify gaps in service delivery and work with services, members and partners to plug these
- Share and develop good practice across the county's Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships
Our Community Safety Strategy outlines what the County Council are doing to reduce crime and create safer communities and what our priorities are for the next three years. It is aimed to provide a clear and transparent picture for out partners and services
