The benefits and pensions system can seem quite complex, but there are a number of organisations that can help you find out whether you are eligible.
Age Concern offer information about welfare rights for older people and you can also seek advice from the Pensions Service and the Citizens Advice Bureau (see the related links below).
Do you know about the different types of benefits that you may be entitled to?
These could include:
- Pension credit
- Housing benefit
- Council tax benefit
- Winter fuel payments
- Free prescriptions and eye tests
- An increase in tax allowances (at 65)
- Working tax credit (if you have not retired)
- Assisted transport and free off-peak bus travel
- Concessions on adult education classes, theatres, hairdressers, etc
- Social fund (such as cold weather and fuel payments, or to help cover costs, such as funeral costs)
If you are in a community care home or if you visit a day centre, your needs can be assessed by a member of Northamptonshire's benefits team. Find out how we assess whether adults need our help
If your needs are assessed by the Adult Care Squad, you can choose to recruit your own staff and have money paid directly to you - this is called Direct Payments.
For further information and advice about Income and Benefits contact your local citizens advice bureau. Not sure where it is, then visit the Citizens Advice Bureau website (new window) where you can search for your nearest office.
