Renting a home
When looking for a home to rent you can look in the local press, see news and press in useful links, or visit the Direct Gov website which also provides a lot of information on renting property.
Council Housing
The County Council is not a housing authority - this is dealt with by the appropriate local authority. Contact the relevant district or borough for further information.
Who to inform about your move
- Contact the relevant district or borough that you will be moving into, to inform them of your new details.
- All utility providers will need to be contacted and notified of the change in your details, plus banks, insurance and benefits. Visit the I am moving website to alert all these companies.
- The Royal Mail website can, for a charge, redirect mail from your previous address to your new one for a selected period of time.
- The DVLA website, it is illegal to have a driving licence with an incorrect address.
Finding services in your new area
- Use the schools directory to find out which schools are in your area.
- Find a school place for your child, visit applying for a primary school place, or applying for a secondary school place.
- We do not collect refuse from people's homes, this is the responsibility of the local district and borough council. Visit the waste and recycling page for information on waste and recycling.
- Learn about the services on offer at libraries throughout the county, find your local library.
- Visit the childcare pages for information on all the services on offer and tips for choosing childcare, in order to help you choose the right childcare for you in your new area.
- Visit the Public Transport pages to find the transport available to you in your area, including searchable bus service timetables by route, get bus times sent direct to your mobile, journey planning.
- Find your local councillor for your new area.
- To find a local doctor, dentist, optician or pharmacist visit the health services page.
- To register to vote in your new area contact your local District/Borough council, or visit the aboutmy vote website.
- Find out which broadband internet suppliers cover the area you are moving to.
Finding a job
