The Government requires all local housing authorities to carry out an accommodation assessment of Gypsies and Travellers residing in or resorting to their area. This is known as a Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment (GTAA ). District and borough councils agreed to carry out this work jointly and the Countywide Traveller Unit (CTU) was commissioned to carry out the research on their behalf.
The results of this project will be used to inform local authority housing and planning departments, of the level of accommodation needed for Gypsies and Travellers and what the pitch requirements are for the area. It will contribute towards local authorities’ housing plans and planning documents including the local development frameworks and regional spatial strategies.
