Fiche purchasing

The majority of parish registers held at Northamptonshire Record Office are available to purchase on microfiche.

A list of all parishes, the covering dates of the registers held and the number of microfiche per parish is available and costs £2.00. If you are interested in a particular parish, then we can supply on request what is known as a Breakdown List listing the registers for that parish and the numbers per register.

How to order your microfiche

  • Write to the Record Office requesting a Breakdown List for the parish or parishes you are interested in.
We send up to 5 breakdown sheets free of charge. A charge of 30 pence per sheet is made for 6 or more sheets.
  • Select the registers you want from the Breakdown List.
  • Complete the   microfiche copyright form (word format 33.5kb)  and return this to the Record Office stating the parish reference number, type and date of each register (this information will be found on the detailed breakdown lists).
  • Once this form has been received, your order will be placed.
  • Orders are processed at the end of each month.
  • The microfiche are then copied and sent out.
  • Payment is then due. An invoice is despatched by the County Council's treasurer's department for orders of £30 and over. The Record Office itself issues invoices for fiche orders under £30.

Costs:

Per fiche £2.00 (inclusive of VAT)
Handling charge on orders over 25 microfiche £2
Postage according to weight
We ask that payment is made in pounds sterling
We cannot accept credit card payments

Please note that all the fiche that make up an individual register have to be ordered, even if you are not interested in the full period covered by the register.

Quality

The quality of the microfiche depends upon the quality of the original register. Some of the earlier registers may be difficult to read. Occasionally, pages were missed out during the filming process. Any missing pages can usually be found at the end of the last microfiche in the series.

We are always happy to answer any queries that you may have on our service.
