The Record Office has an extensive library to assist you in your research. The library has books covering a range of subjects to help you trace your family tree, research local history, trace the history of a house or trace the descent of a manor. We hope that you will find this resource useful.
The books in the library are all reference books, so can only be consulted in the Record Office. We are not able to loan out copies.
The books are arranged by place or by subject. The main categories are: Northamptonshire, Northampton, Northamptonshire towns and villages arranged alphabetically; towns and villages in other counties arranged by county alphabetically; local history sources, local and central government records, agriculture, landscape architects/architecture, education, industry and trades, transport, military, religion, law, poor law, John Clare and poetry, art and photography, general British history, reference books/dictionaries, genealogy and heraldry, biographies and trade directories.
There are also three Northamptonshire County Histories by John Bridges, George Baker and the Victoria County History as well as the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments – Northamptonshire volumes.
