Background
This part of the site aims to help you access information about the Pension Scheme and to answer some of your questions.
The Northamptonshire Local Government Pension Scheme is part of the national Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). The scheme is administered by Northamptonshire County Council and represents more than eighty employers including the County Council, the Borough and District Councils, the University of Northampton, other educational bodies, some voluntary and private sector organisations providing services on behalf of local government.
The scheme currently has over 40,000 individual active, deferred and pensioner members. The Pension Scheme is financed through the Northamptonshire Local Government Pension Fund which has assets exceeding £1,000 million.
The Northamptonshire Local Government Pension Scheme is a statutory scheme. This means that it is very secure as its benefits are defined and set out in law.
There are a range of information booklets available to individual members covering the benefits and conditions of the scheme. These will however need to be completely revised as a result of the ending of the present scheme and its replacement by the New Local Government Pension Scheme from 1 April 2008. Publications explaining in detail the new scheme will be placed on this site as they become available.
