In 2001, a postcard which asked "What do older people REALLY want' and for three things which would make older peoples lives better, was sent to over 150 local groups with an interest in older people's issues. There was a tremendous response to the survey with some 378 cards being returned.
The postcard survey gives invaluable insight into the views of older people in Northamptonshire and has helped inform the development of N-OPAG's work programme.
In terms of what things would make the lives of older people better, the main findings were:
- Better public transport
- More concessions
- Better roads and pavements
- More visible policing
- Cleaner, safer town-centres
- A better refuse service
- Better healthcare and support
