Registered Historic Parks and Gardens

What is a registered historic park or garden?

Historic parks and gardens are an especially fragile resource, which can easily be damaged beyond repair or lost forever.

In order to recognise sites which are of particular importance, English Heritage compiles a Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest.

Planning

Northamptonshire currently has 30 nationally important, designed landscapes on this Register, which brings no additional statutory controls, but requires their consideration within planning policies. English Heritage is consulted on all planning applications which affect sites graded I or II*.
