The Northamptonshire Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) is part of the successful national scheme and was established in February 1999.
It aims to promote the recording of finds of ancient objects found in the county, as well as increasing public awareness of the importance of these finds for understanding our past.
Since 1999, Northamptonshire people have recorded over 7,000 objects, found right across the county.
The Northamptonshire PAS is managed by a partnership of all local authorities in Northamptonshire, namely
- Corby Borough Council
- Daventry District Council
- East Northamptonshire Council
- Kettering Borough Council
- Northampton Borough Council
- Northamptonshire County Council
- South Northamptonshire Council
- Borough Council of Wellingborough.

The main funding is provided by Government (DCMS) by way of the Museums, Libraries, and Archives Council (MLA), with overall national co-ordination, direction and development of standards being provided by The British Museum.
Local partners in Northamptonshire contribute a total of 5% of the local costs with Northamptonshire County Council hosting the local scheme.
Julie has a masters degree in Artefact Studies from UCL, where her dissertation was "A study into the social significance and distribution of the Romano-British Dragonesque brooch, using the Portable Antiquities Scheme as a primary datasource". She has worked as Finds Manager for several large scale excavations, both internationally and in the UK, and is now looking forward to working with the people and finds of Northamptonshire. |
Julie will be happy to advise on and record any human-made object that is over 300 years old at a local Finds Surgery, or if these are not convenient, contact her to arrange an appointment at your convenience.
