We are encouraging residents to help the environment and save resources by choosing tap water over bottled water.
Shoppers in the UK spend a whopping £2 billion pounds a year on expensive bottled water. At around a £1 a litre, thirsty residents are not only taking a substantial hit to the wallet, they are also contributing to increased pressure on limited water resources. The carbon dioxide emitted through the transport of bottled water from overseas also contributes to climate change.
The UK’s thirst for bottled water results in billions of empty bottles going into the bin each year. While a proportion of these bottles will be recycled, many more will end up in landfill.
The good news is that cheap, extremely high quality water is available straight from the tap. At around £1 per 10,000 litres, tap water is available twenty-four hours a day, comes completely unpackaged and is supplied at an extremely affordable cost.
Water companies have to conform to very stringent quality standards so you can be assured that the quality of water you get from the tap is at as least as good as the most popular bottled brands.
You can help save resources by reusing an empty plastic water bottle or buying a strong sports bottle and filling it with tap water.
Why not keep some chilled water in a filter jug in the fridge? BRITA filter cartridges can be returned to the manufacture for recycling. See their website for more details.

5000 branded water bottles were given out free to Northamptonshire residents throughout September 2008 to encourage them to fill from the tap rather than buying bottled water to quench their thirst.
Everyone receiving a bottle had a take the taste test to see of they could actually tell the difference between popular brands of bottled water and ordinary tap water. The results were very telling with the majority of testers preferring the taste of tap water to the other samples! The proof is in the tasting!
Don't believe us? Why not try it at home and see if you can truly tell the difference!
