The Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change is a voluntary declaration by local authorities that they will work to combat climate change, and adapt to the risks it poses.
The county council formally signed the declaration on 23 October 2006 (view a picture using the link below). In March 2007 the East Midlands became the first region where all the authorities had signed the Declaration.
Some of the Declaration's key commitments are:
- to develop plans with our partners and local communities to address climate change;
- to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our own operations;
- to address the risks of climate change and make plans to adapt to them;
- to encourage all sectors of the local community to reduce their emissions and adapt to change.
You can find out more about the Declaration by using the related links at the bottom of the page, or you can view the text of the Nottingham Declaration for Northamptonshire below:
As a result of the Declaration we need to work on emissions and climate change risks in three main areas:
- the council's direct activities (eg running its buildings);
- the council's services to the public (eg schools and transport);
- our work with partners and the wider community.
You can find out how we are responding to these commitments by returning to the Tackling Climate Change page and selecting the relevant links.
