Tackling Climate Change

According to the best available scientific advice, climate change is caused mainly by human emissions of carbon dioxide (see Climate Change in Northamptonshire). It is therefore imperative to reduce these emissions.

The Government plans to set reduction targets of 28-32% by 2020 and 60% by 2050. All organisations, communities and individuals will have to play their part in this.

The pages in this section explains what action the council and other organisations are taking to reduce emissions, and adapt to the changes that can't be avoided.

The council signed up to the 'Nottingham Declaration in October 2007'. Find out what this commits us to doing.

Find out about how we are tackling the council's direct emissions through our 'Carbon Management Action Plan'.

How we are working with other organisations to encourage action on climate change across the county.

Even if we manage to limit carbon emissions, some climate change will happen. Preparing for these changing conditions is called "adaptation".  Find out about some of the issues and what councils in this county are doing.
