Childminders care for children in their own home; this includes older children before and after school and in school holidays, as well as pre-school aged children. Childminders play an important role giving parents/carers a greater choice of high quality, flexible childcare and family support services.
There are currently approximately 1200 registered childminders in Northamptonshire – men and women of all ages and from all walks of life.
To become a Childminder you will need to attend a Pre-registration Information Session (2 hours) and an Ofsted session (2 hours). You will also need to go onto complete a 12 hour Paediatric First Aid Course and the Common Induction Standards Training (30.5 hours).
All new Childminders are offered support through the Northamptonshire Support Childminding Scheme by the Early Years and Childcare Workforce Development Team.
