The number of Out of School Clubs has doubled to over 7000 between 1997 and 2002. By 2010 4Children, the national charity dedicated to creating opportunities for children, believes there will be enough demand for a club to every Primary School. This is also pertinent to Central Government's move towards Extended Schools.
Out of School clubs include breakfast, lunch and after school clubs, as well as holiday playschemes. Local clubs have been set up in schools, houses, warehouses, factories and offices. They provide children with opportunities to play, learn and develop new skills, parents to enter the workforce and benefit the community by decreasing the likelihood of negative behaviour.
