If you live in Northamptonshire and your child :
- is currently in Year 6 in Primary School and due to transfer to Secondary School in September 2009 or
- is currently in Year 8 in Middle School and due to transfer to Prince William Upper School in September 2009
The deadline to apply for a Secondary school place was the 5th November 2008. If you wish to make a late application you must complete a paper preference form. These are available either from your child's primary school or directly from the Admissions Team.
If you are moving into or within Northamptonshire during the application process please see the section on Late Applications.
Please refer to the “Applying for a Secondary School Place in Northamptonshire 2009/2010 Information for Parents” booklet for guidance on late applications. You can view or download a copy from below.
Please note that following a national scrutiny of admission policies that was completed after the Information for Parents booklet went to press, there have been a few technical amendments to the wording of some of the policies. Please check the online schools directory if you wish to see the final version of a school’s policy.
Transferring to secondary school is an important stage in every child's life. The process of applying can seem quite complicated. The County Council will do all it can to help you understand the procedure.
For information regarding individual schools please visit the Online Schools Directory where you can view Ofsted Reports, DCSF performance data and admission criteria.
Please bear in mind that many secondary schools require you to fill in a separate form as well as the County Council preference form, if you have listed them amongst your preferences.
If you are not resident in Northamptonshire, please contact your home LA .
If your child has a statement of special educational needs there is a different process in place. Please see the section on Special Needs.
Offer letters will be posted from the Admissions Team on Monday 2nd March 2009. Your letter from the council is the only official notification of the allocation of a secondary school place.
Equal Preferencing
Allocations to all Secondary Schools are based on an equal preference system. This means that for all schools, all pupils stating a preference regardless of whether it is a first, second or third preference will be considered against the published admission criteria - priority is not given to those placing the school as a first preference. A more detailed explanation of this can be found below.
