- Support staff pay and conditions
- Salary assessment for teachers
- Job evaluation for support staff posts
- Issues relating to equal opportunities in employment
We provide a comprehensive website containing the Schools HR portfolio of model employment policies and procedures, (including guidance and model letters) which have been compiled in consultation with the recognised trade unions and are recommended for adoption by your school’s governing body.
We continuously review and amend this portfolio to respond to changes in legislation and good practice and we always value your feedback.

Employment Performance Procedures
Our experienced team of HR professionals provide case management support to head teachers and governors resolving typical HR issues:
- Staff disciplinary investigations and hearings
- Staff capability and performance issues
- Staff dismissals and appeals
- Staff grievances, disputes and conflict resolution
- Discrimination and harassment
- Disclosures in the public interest (whistle-blowing)
- Employment tribunal advice and support

The Schools HR SLA includes assistance with undertaking investigations and consultation with trade unions and professional associations. However it excludes the costs of specialist legal advice which may be required in the case of employment tribunals.

Pay and Pensions
Schools HR provides advice on the implementation of pay grading and discretions and on equal pay issues.
In liaison with Teachers’ Pensions and the Local Government Pension Scheme Schools HR provides advice on pension benefits, entitlements and early retirements.
Managing Change (includes draft letters to end Fixed Term Contracts)
Schools HR provides advice and support on staffing structures, reviews and re-organisations. This includes assistance in managing the people aspects of change such as redundancies and redeployment. Our Redundancy Policy is on the HR Policies page, please click on the link on the right.
Ending Fixed Term Contracts - The following draft letters can be used in cases where Fixed Term Contracts are coming to an end.

Managing Time Off and Absence Reporting
We provide advice and support to head teachers managing:
- Repetitive short term sickness absence
- Long term staff absences through ill health and industrial injury
- Disability issues including reasonable adjustments
- Return to work arrangements
- Maternity, paternity and family leave
- Time off for special leave including Trade union duties and public office
- Ill health retirements.

Please note that ALL Absence Reports should be sent to MBS via the Secure Data Transfer System.
