Key to improving performance is an effective appraisal. A good appraisal is one which sets clear and achievable objectives (which remain challenging), assesses and recognises performance and plans for future development.
The Council’s launched the PADP approach in March 2004. PADP is the recommended model for appraisal of support staff in schools.
A review of how it was implemented was carried out at the end of 2004. Following on from this review, we have now collated all of your feedback and made changes to the PADP approach in line with your comments and suggestions.
What’s changed:
- The guidance has been simplified and is now contained in one document.
- There will be one PADP form for school based employees which has been reorganised to reflect the order in which most of us discuss the PADP.
- The 360 feedback form focuses on the Council’s values and has a tick-box option for those who are less confident in giving feedback
- The performance rating has been changed to a 5 level scale and more guidance given. Please refer to the guidance notes for details of the new ratings.
- The ‘Your Effectiveness’ section now summarises performance.
- The mid-year review has also changed slightly.
- A new PADP leaflet for employees has been developed.
The following resources will support you in delivering PADP and should be used for all PADP’s from April 2006. All the PADP forms are word documents and are downloadable enabling you to word process straight on to the new form.
