STEMNET - Northamptonshire Setpoint

SetPoint logo

Setpoint Northamptonshire plans and provides a wide range of Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics activities.

Setpoint Northamptonshire aims to support teachers to this end.

These experiences/activities are available from Key Stage 1 through to post 16. These may be directed to teachers to help them develop professionally or may be delivered directly to the students themselves.

Activities range from helping schools to set up and run clubs, to inviting schools to become involved in challenging and “cutting edge” projects. Student experiences can be 1 hour long delivered by an outside agency, to a more lengthy activity spread across several terms with weekly, fortnightly, or termly inputs, and delivered by LASI County Advisers.

Where funds allow, opportunities to enrich the curriculum are shared with appropriate schools across the county. Flyers are sent into schools inviting them to take up the opportunities on offer.

Where funding is limited, to ensure maximum opportunities are available to schools, a nominal fee from participating schools or students is requested. When funding is provided to Setpoint Northamptonshire for specific targeted activities, schools which are thought to be best placed to take up the opportunities are invited to become involved.

Setpoint Northamptonshire is also responsible for two national initiatives to support teaching and learning in the key curriculum areas mentioned earlier.

The first initiative -
is the Science and Engineering Ambassador’s Scheme or SEAs. This scheme recruits volunteers to help support a range of activities in classroom from running after school activities to judging challenges etc.

SEAs are keen and enthusiastic personnel who have volunteered to give some time to help give our students a rewarding and relevant education. SEAs have been fully briefed about how schools operate and have been CRB checked by STEMNET.

We have a number of SEAs who are available to help support teachers in Northamptonshire schools.

The second initiative -
which is currently operated by Setpoint Northamptonshire is the BA Crest Award Scheme. This scheme awards certificates to students at three levels for Science and Technology projects at Secondary School level, i.e. Bronze, Silver and Gold.

There are additional awards for Science: The First and Young Investigators for Key stages 1, 2 and 3, and the Science Communicators Awards. These awards are run by Setpoint Northamptonshire and offer an excellent way to celebrate students' achievements within and outside of the curriculum.

Setpoint Northamptonshire is here to support you wherever possible.
