In order to ensure that all children and young people have the opportunity to achieve their full potential we must improve the way that we deliver services to them and their families. To achieve this all those who work in this area will work to:
- Improve access to the range of services and activities that children, young people or their families might need at different stages of their lives.
- Work more effectively together.
- Ensure that the needs of the child or their family are central to their work.
Schools are central to this agenda because:
- Learning is one of the most important preventative factors for children and young people.
- They are a universal service through which all children pass.
- In many communities they have a range of specialist facilities for sport, the arts and ICT.
By 2008, in Northamptonshire we will have:
- 125 primary schools and 13 secondary schools offering access to a range of extended services through the development of cluster and partnership arrangements.
- There will be 31 Children’s Centres across the County.
- An integrated youth offer.
By 2010:
- All children will have access to a variety of services and activities in or around their school.
- Every family with a child under 5 years of age will have access to a Children’s Centre in their local community ( most Children’s Centres will be on school sites).
