These proposals for good practice guidance were produced by a working party drawn from the membership of the county Autistic Spectrum Disorder Co-ordinating Group, representing all the agencies and professions routinely involved in the assessment and diagnosis of youngsters with possible ASDs .
They are intended as a response to a number of pressures and issues:
- The need for a county-wide pathway which is coherent and consistent
- The importance of promoting effective communication and collaboration across disciplines and agencies so as to deliver a co-ordinated child and family-centred service (in keeping with the agenda of Every Child Matters and the National Service Framework)
- The requirement to take account of the recommendations of the National Autism Plan for Children regarding assessment and diagnosis
