Northamptonshire's provision for pupils out of school works to meet the LEA's statutory duty by providing educational programmes for pupils who do not have a school place, and for school-age mothers. This includes:
- Pupils who are permanently excluded
- Pupils with statements of SEN awaiting appropriate placement
- Pupils who have moved into the area but do not have a school place
- Pupils returning from custody
There are Complimentary Education Centres (CEC) in Northampton, Kettering, Corby and Wellingborough, where pupils are taught individually or in small groups.
Wherever possible, pupils are reintegrated to mainstream schools or special schools. Pupils in Key Stage 4 may complete their education at a CEC. They are able to take some GCSEs and other qualifications, and may then go on to local college.
There are facilities for school-age mothers in Northampton and Corby. The provision enables pupils to continue their education and also receive tuition in child care.
