In Northamptonshire we believe firmly that your induction period is an extremely important time for you and our support has been designed to help you met your personal and professional needs in as many ways as possible.
- We have a school-focused approach to professional development to supplement an outstanding range of quality courses provided by our Inspection and Advisory Service [NIAS].
- There are Professional Development Centres at Northampton and Corby to promote and support the professional development of teachers in the county.
- The county has a well established programme of school based induction for Newly Qualified Teachers.
- During the Induction period, support for new teachers is on hand in schools and a local authority programme operates to complement the school-based activities.
- In your school, your Headteacher and colleagues will provide first-line support for you.
- Support groups for Newly Qualified Teachers also operate in the county.
- The NIAS School Improvement Advisor who is responsible for your school will monitor and oversee your formal assessment. To this end they may observe you teach at least once during your induction year.
In addition to this, you will also have a support person from NIAS (who have nothing to do with the assessment process).
- You can contact your support person whenever you need to.
- If the school agrees, your support person can make classroom visits to advise and help you.
- Initial contact is made at the County Induction Conference, an important event where you will meet key LEA personnel and other Newly Qualified Teachers from other schools that you can make links with.
