Looked after children - introduction

The Children Act 2004 (made in 1989) states that:

'social workers must protect you, keep you safe and look at your needs'

As a 'looked after child', you have a right under the Act to receive the best education possible.

We are here to help you achieve that by offering support and solutions to any problems that you may have.

A lot of time and research into ‘looked after children’ has shown that many young people who end up in care, find that they miss too much schooling because they do not attend regularly.

We have found that we need to help you as soon as possible, if you are missing school, so that you can get into a regular routine.
