You can avoid paying these charges by:
- Returning items to a library on or before the date they are due.
- Renewing online. Go into the Library Catalogue, pick the 'My Account' option on the top of the page and enter your membership number and PIN. This will bring up a list of the items you have on loan. Click on the box to the left of the title(s) you wish to renew. Click on the link to the Library Catalogue in the Related Links section below.
- Contacting your library by 'phone, post or email on or before the date the items are due back.
Please note: items will be renewed from the date the library handles the renewal request, not from when the request was delivered, sent, emailed, posted etc.
- On holiday - let us know if you will be away when books are due back. A further loan period of up to twenty-one days may be given.
Please note staff are not permitted to vary loan periods to individual customers without authority. Loan periods over forty-two days (six weeks) require special agreement from the library's Principal Librarian.
If items are returned late then the following charges apply:
Books
Are charged per book per day open, or, per visit missed for the Mobile Library Service, up to the maximum charge per book:
- £0.17 per day open to a maximum of £7.14 per book for any book issued on an adult's card
- £0.01 per day open to a maximum of £0.42 per book for any book issued on an under 5's card
- £0.05 per day open to a maximum of £2.10 per book for any book issued on an child (5+) or young adult's card
- Mobile Library Service: £0.55 per visit missed to a max of £6.60 per book issued on an adult's card
- Mobile Library Service: £0.03 per visit missed to a max of £0.36 per book issued on an under 5's card
- Mobile Library Service: £0.15 per visit missed to a max of £1.80 per book issued on an child (5+) or young adult's card
Items that are hired:
- Audio books, CDs, DVDs, videos etc: you will be charged the re-hire charge for each additional loan period for the late return of hired items
- Music and Drama sets: £3.00 per set for a 3 re-hire week period (or part of)
No charges are made:
- To people using the Home Library service (including those in residential homes, hospitals or hospices) and the terminally ill
- For audio books to people who are unable to read standard (N12) print with spectacles
