Members of Northamptonshire Libraries can now access the most comprehensive dictionary in the world.

Where did that word come from and who used it first? When was the first recorded use of MOBILE PHONE? How many English words have a Hindi origin? Where did the quote "Beware the jubjub bird" come from. Lose yourself in the world of words and prepare to be amazed.

Tracing the evolution of more than 600,000 words over the last 1,500 years through 2.5 million quotations from a wide range of sources – from classic literature and periodicals to film scripts and pop songs the dictionary is also a crossword solvers dream.
