Northamptonshire Libraries and Information Service provides mobile libraries which provide library services across the County. Our mobile libraries are open to everyone - why not call in when you see one?
Each mobile is fitted with a lift for disabled people and there is a programme to fit induction loops for people with hearing impairment.
It is free to join and there are no forms to fill out. The mobile libraries have a wide range of books, large print books, audio books. Using our web pages you can look under a place name and see if a mobile library visits there.
If more than one route visits a place all relevant timetables will be shown. Just scroll down the page to view them all. The timetable gives the address of individual stops and a list of the visits. The map icons show the location of each stop using Northamptonshire County Council's map imaging system.
If the mobile library does not visit the place you have selected you can find your nearest route by trying a nearby place name or by contacting our Enquire Direct service using the contact details on the right.
Things you might not know about your mobile library:
- Each mobile library carries approx 2,500 items of stock
- The mobile libraries have access to the library catalogue on board so that staff can check the availability of titles from the huge range of stock in other Northamptonshire libraries. These can be requested for a small fee.
- Each vehicle weighs about 7.5 tons and is 8m long, 2.3m wide and 3m high - and quite a challenge to drive on some of Northamptonshire's narrow roads!
- To keep the service going there is a rigorous safety & maintenance programme for each vehicle. In addition to annual MOT tests, they have a regular eight-week safety inspection.
- The vehicles are replaced every 10 years or less (2 new ones in the past 12 months).
