Reading Services

Northamptonshire Libraries and Information Service helps people of all ages enjoy books and reading:

  • Read Yourself Well
Self-help books easily available from libraries for patients with mild to moderate level mental health problems. Books can also be borrowed by any member of the public without a prescription.

  • Wellbeing Services
A range of services in libraries helping people who want to improve their personal wellbeing.

Reading groups:

  • What happens at a reading group? Usually at each meeting the group discuss two novels on a similar theme. Selections vary from new and contemporary to old favourites and established authors. The library provides copies of the books to be discussed prior to the relevant meeting. All are welcome - there are groups for children aged 8 to 10, young people under 16 and adults.

  • The Sounds Good Reading Group is a reading group for visually impaired people. It meets once a month on every fourth Tuesday at 7:00pm, in Wellingborough Library. We welcome new members and can help out with transport if that is a problem. The library provides copies of the audiobooks to be discussed prior to the relevant meeting. If you like listening to audiobooks and would like to discover new titles and authors and share your reactions with friends, why not come and join us?

  • Is there a group near you? The following link will help you find out:

  •   A list of Reading Groups which meet in Northamptonshire libraries 2007 (pdf format 68kb)

  • Or why not start your own reading group? If you are interested in starting your own reading group, the East Midlands Regional Reading Group Project has produced the Books Connect reading pack to help you.  The pack is available from any Northamptonshire Library or you can view it using the Books Connect link on the right hand side of this page.
