Accessibility

What is web accessibility?

The W3C's introduction to web accessibility states that:

Web accessibility means that people with disabilities can use the Web. More specifically, web accessibility means that people with disabilities can perceive, understand, navigate, and interact with the Web, and that they can contribute to the Web.

WAI Level AA accessibility

The Government requires that all public sector websites - whether for central or local government - should meet the W3C's guidelines on accessibility to WAI Level AA standard.

By following the guidelines and standards, we aim to make our website as accessible as possible. We have attempted to ensure that all pages meet high levels for web accessibility and conform to the AA standard but we recognise this is not always possible.

This site is continually under development in order to improve our compliance to ensure we meet as many of the WAI Level AAA guidelines as are achievable.

Interactive mapping

Due to its graphical nature, our interactive mapping application cannot currently be presented in a fully accessible format. If you would like assistance with this, please email: webteam@northamptonshire.gov.uk.

Access keys

Access keys are intended to provide keyboard shortcuts as an alternative form of navigation for users with limited physical capabilities. This will help them to navigate a website more easily.

Please note: That the access keys are only supported by MS Internet Explorer 4 and above and by Netscape 6x versions.

How to use the access keys

  • If you are using Internet Explorer press ALT plus the listed access key, then press ENTER.
  • If you are using a Macintosh system press CONTROL key plus the listed access key, then press ENTER.
