Educational Visits Policy

This policy on educational trips and visits applies to all educational establishments where the county council is the employer, for example community and voluntary controlled schools.

In establishments where the county council is not the employer (for example, academies, aided and foundation schools) this policy is provided as an example of good practice. These schools should adopt their own employer guidance policy, however they may use this policy as a basis for their own policy development.

Employer Guidance Policy

This policy has been issued to all Northamptonshire County Council controlled schools and settings.

The guidance document includes:

  • Establishing and maintaining a trained Educational Visits Co-ordinator for each establishment or cluster of establishments
  • Responsibilities and categories of trips
  • Maintaining an Outdoor Education Advisor
  • Adopting and following the best practice from the Outdoor Education Advisors Panel National Guidance

All Educational Visits Co-ordinators are advised to undertake an approved training course and ensure that they attend refresher training at least every three years.

Categories of visits

The county council recognises the categories of visits A, B and C. Trips are categorised based on the level of risk involved, for clarification, please visit the categories of visits page.
