Northamptonshire School Library Award Winners 2008/9 Award Ceremony
 |
The announcement for the Primary and Secondary School Library took place at LRE on Wednesday 9th July. This ceremony was a celebration of excellence and outstanding work in school libraries. Representatives from all the short-listed schools were there eager to discover who had won. The judges included LRE Advisers and NIAS Literacy and English Advisers and representatives from Yardley Hastings Primary and Sponne School Technology College who were the winning school libraries in 2006/7.
To start the ceremony Grace Kempster Library Service Manager, Northamptonshire Libraries and Information Services talked about the importance of the award which was created in recognition that school libraries are central to raising standards and making a difference to pupil's learning. The search for the winners had involved looking at school libraries the length and breadth of Northamptonshire who had sent in portfolios of evidence supporting the criteria set out by LRE advisers. Andrew Downing, Interim Head of Learning Achievement and Schools Improvement spoke warmly about each of the shortlisted schools in turn using the judge's comments before announcing the winners.
The winner in the Primary Category was Higham Ferrers Junior School. Shortlisted were Denfield Park Junior School, Titchmarsh CE Primary School and Spring Lane Primary School.
The winner in the Secondary Category was Corby Community College. Shortlisted were Brooke Weston City Technology College and Weston Favell School.
The winning schools were each presented with a winners certificate and book vouchers for £200 supplied by Demco Interiors and FG Library Products. All schools who took part also received bags of new books and a certificate. As you can see from the photo both winning schools rounded off the ceremony nicely by tucking into our Roald Dahl BFG cake!
