The world Firefighters Games 2008 took place in Merseyside in August this year.

As part of this event, the Chief Fire Officer of Merseyside issued a challenge to all Chief Fire Officers to participate in fund raising activities for The Fire Fighters Charity (formally known as The Fire Service National Benevolent Fund (FSNBF)). |
| After considering various ideas, our Chief Fire Officer, Martyn Emberson, decided to complete a sponsored drill at every fire station in the county. |

The events Martyn has undertaken so far have included a water rescue drill at the Nene Whitewater Rafting Centre, line rescue training in the Carlsberg tower in Northampton, a decontamination exercise at Towcester, road traffic collisions (RTC) and Breathing Apparatus (BA) drills. |
