Wholetime (full-time) Firefighters
Unfortunately we are not recruiting for wholetime firefighters at this time.

Retained (part-time) Firefighters
If you like the idea of being a firefighter, but you can't join us full time, why not think about the Retained Service?
We would be really pleased to hear from you, and will fully explain the role of a Retained Firefighter.
Basically, this is part-time work involving attendance at training courses, a weekly two to three hour training session and responding to calls, as and when required. The training sessions are called Drill Nights and on these nights you are allowed to come along and observe the firefighters in action.
Drill Nights
In return for your time, we pay a retaining fee and payment for each call out or training session you attend.
To be considered:
- You must be fit and healthy
- At least 18 years old (there is no upper age limit)
- Have reasonable eyesight (some correction is acceptable)
- You will also need to live or work within four minutes of one of our fire stations where we operate a retained service
- We particularly need people who can respond to calls during the day
We would also like to hear from women and people from ethnic minorities, who are currently under-represented in our workforce.
