Your Responsibilities
- Protection of your home or property
- Provide your own flood defences if necessary such as sandbags etc
- Identify if you are living in a fluvial flood risk area
- Recover from the flood, repair your building
- Arrange alternative accommodation if your home or property is uninhabitable
- Dispose of debris and furniture and other flood damaged items from your home in a legal manner
- Arrange adequate insurance cover for your property and processions
County Council and District/Borough Council
- Set up an Emergency Reception Centre to provide shelter, warmth and food for people and pets (on leads or in carriers if possible)
- Provide alternative accommodation for council tenants
- Provide information centres for flood affected persons to seek advice on insurance, accommodation, finance, emotional support, contractors, health, benefits, self-help volunteer groups etc
- Assist vulnerable persons, eg elderly and the disabled
- Liaise with other agencies to set up information help lines, manage/communicate any appeals that may have been set up
- Maintain the highways
Fire and rescue service
- Save life and rescue trapped persons
- Assist in the evacuation of people in danger
Police
- Protect life - conduct life saving operations
- Assist in the evacuation of people in danger
- Assist in public information
- Advise and assist road closures
Ambulance Service
- Provide life saving treatment
- Arrange transport to hospital for those who require urgent medical care
Environment Agency
- Maintain flood defences
- Provide flood warning to the public and local authorities
Anglian Water and Severn Trent Water
- Provide a supply of clean drinking water to their customers
- Remove and treat sewage
