There are currently 8 residents’ parking permit schemes in operation in Northampton. These are in the following areas:
- Alcombe Road
- Billing Road
- The Mounts
- Spring Boroughs
- St James
- Tanner Street
- Town Centre (managed by Northampton Borough Council)
- Victoria Gardens

In the schemes, parking bays are marked out on the street. The majority are for ‘permit holders only’, others are loading bays or goods vehicles only and then there are a number of one and two hour free bays.
The schemes are operational from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 8am to 6pm (8am to 10pm in the St James area). Only vehicles displaying the relevant parking permits will be able to park in a ‘permit holder bay’. There are no restrictions in force on Sundays.
A permit does not reserve a particular space and after 6pm (10 pm in St James) all the parking bays become available for general parking.
Parking Services at present do not provide 24 hour enforcement and this reflects in the times of operation of the residential schemes.
