Parking Waivers

In certain circumstances Northamptonshire County Council may issue waivers giving exemptions from parking restrictions. Waivers can be issued to any individual or company who need constant access to their vehicle, and whose work demands that they park close to the premises.

Any commercial vehicle the size of a standard Transit van or larger is eligible for a parking waiver. In an emergency situation other cars/vans may be considered

A waiver allows a vehicle to park on single yellow lines, providing that no loading restriction is in force. The vehicle can also park in an on-street pay & display bay, permit holder bays or a half hour free bay.

There is a limit of 2 vehicles per premises unless there is an emergency. This is further limited to 1 vehicle for the following streets within Northampton:

  • Bridge Street
  • Gold Street
  • St Giles Street
  • Castillian Street
  • Mercers Row
  • George Row
  • Wood Hill
  • Drapery
  • Derngate
  • Dychurch Lane
  • Abington Street
  • Fish Street

A waiver is issued free of charge and can be issued for as little as two days or a maximum of 2 weeks.

No renewals will be made once the initial waiver has been issued.

When applying for a waiver the following details are required:

  • A contract document
  • Name of company and driver.
  • Registration number of vehicle
  • Make and model of the vehicle
  • Location the vehicle wishes to park in
  • Date from and to the waiver is required.
  • Time the waiver will be used.

Once a waiver has been issued, the following general rules also apply:

  • The waiver is only valid as shown.
  • The waiver must be placed in the windscreen and be clearly visible from the outside
  • The vehicle must be moved on the instructions of a Police Officer, Traffic Warden or Civil Enforcement Officer.
  • No goods are to be deposited on the footpath.
  • A waiver is only valid if it is displaying a signature from the issuing officer and applicant.

Please note that a waiver can be revoked at any time by Northamptonshire County Council if misuse of the waiver is suspected or any other reason deemed fit by the authority.

To apply for a waiver, please contact Parking Services using the contact details on the right. We will then arrange for a Civil Enforcement Officer to attend the site to assess the suitability for a parking waiver.
