General Information on Public Rights of Way in Northamptonshire

All Public Rights of Way are public highways, although they usually run over private land. For a detailed explanation of the legal status of Public Rights of Way, see our Frequently Asked Questions.

Northamptonshire has over 3000 kilometres of Public Rights of Way, forming over 4300 separate routes varying in length from just a few metres, to routes forming County Paths including: the Nene Valley Way, Macmillan Way, Knightley Way, and linking with other counties to form long distance routes including The Midshires Way and The Hereward Way.

We have also produced a series of leaflets promoting shorter walks.
