Road safety

  • County Council's casualty reduction unit
Working in partnership with five key partners, we have been able to demonstrate dramatic and sustained casualty reductions in high risk areas.

  • Dangerous road junctions
We continually assess our road network to determine safety of individual routes and road junctions.

  • Driver assessments and training
Good driver training can raise road safety awareness and cut collision rates. Do you employ drivers? A range of driver training and assessments are available from the Casualty Reduction Unit.

  • Pedestrian crossings
There are many different types of pedestrian crossings which encourage people to walk and improve safety. Contact us to request a new pedestrian crossing.

  • Safety cameras
On average, nine people are killed and 85 injured each day on the UK's roads. Safety cameras help to reduce speeding and make the roads safer.

  • Speed limits
Speed is a significant factor in about one third of road accidents in the United Kingdom, speed limits help to ensure greater road safety.

  • Traffic calming
Traffic calming schemes are introduced to solve an identified problem in one or more roads. They are an extremely effective means of controlling vehicle speeds and can play an important role in helping to cut personal injury accidents.
