As a result of a partnership between Northamptonshire County Council, Shaw healthcare and the county's three Primary Care Trusts, four new Specialist Care Centres offering temporary accommodation for up to 48 people opened in 2004.
The four centres are as follows:
- Spinneyfields - Rushden
- Longlands - Daventry
- Thackley Green - Corby
- Turn Furlong - Northampton
Each centre will have:
- 24 rehabilitation beds - to rehabilitate older people and promote independence, to help older people stay in their own home
- 16 respite care beds for older people with dementia - to give carers a break
- 8 respite beds for physically frail older people - to give carers a break
- 16 day care places per day for older people with dementia - open Monday to Saturday (including Bank holidays). Transport can be provided.
What facilities are there?
The centre is purpose-built on two floors and offers en-suite accommodation, restaurant facilities, a spa bath, a keep fit area, internet access, a library, a hairdressers, a bar and a shop. Outside is a secure garden area.
Who is it for?
The centres are intended for older people aged over 65 years old.
