In this county we believe that older or infirm people, people with disabilities and those medically capable of being discharged from hospital are much better off in their own home.
Social Services employ home care assistants to help people live as independently as possible for as long as possible in their own homes. They play a vital role in providing care in the community. Without them many people just would not be able to manage.
As well as offering support over the longer term we also have a fast response team who can step in at short notice to cover any emergency situation.
Our home care assistants are special people. Far from being home helps (though that's still part of the job) they are professionally trained people working in the community to develop the independence of the people for whom they care.
Of course it's not all chocolate and roses. Tasks are challenging and it takes courage to stand back and watch someone struggle to achieve something rather than step forward and do the job for them. But the rewards are massive – doing something so worthwhile and making such a huge difference to someone's life and acquiring new skills and qualifications (such as NVQ's) at the same time.
The hours are very flexible but may include in some cases night and weekend work. Overnight posts are available and we operate out of a number of localities across the county. We have opportunities for full and part time Home Care Assistants.
