The national Blue Badge scheme allows people with severe walking difficulties who travel as either driver or passenger to park closer to their destinations.
The scheme also applies to registered blind people, people with severe upper limb disabilities in both arms who regularly drive a vehicle and children under two with specific medical conditions. |

Download an application form below, complete these and send them to the address on the form.
Or you can use the contact details on the right hand side to request an application form and label be sent to you through the post.
Please note: We can only issue disabled parking badges to people who are resident in Northamptonshire. If you are resident in another County you will need to apply to the County Council there for a Blue Badge.
You can get a badge if:
- you receive the higher rate of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance
- you receive a War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement
- you use a motor vehicle supplied for disabled people by a Government health department
- you are registered blind
- you drive a motor vehicle regularly, have a severe disability in both arms and are unable to operate, or have considerable difficulty in operating, all or some types of parking meter.
- you have a permanent and substantial disability which means you are unable to walk or have very considerable difficulty in walking. In this case we may ask you more questions to help us determine whether you are eligible for a badge.
- Children under two years of age may be eligible if:
- the child has a condition that requires that they must always be accompanied by bulky medical equipment which cannot be carried around with the child without great difficulty, or
- the child has a condition that requires that they must always be kept near a motor vehicle so that they can, if necessary, be treated for that condition in the vehicle or be taken quickly in the vehicle to a place where they can be treated.
Organisations caring for disabled people meeting the above criteria may be able to get a badge, but this is entirely at our discretion.
The badge belongs to the person and not to the car. You can use the badge in any car you are travelling in. You do not have to drive your own car to be eligible for a blue badge.
Only the person named on the badge is entitled to use the badge. You must not lend your badge to other people. If you are found to be misusing your badge you may have your badge removed from you.
Most car parks provide dedicated disabled badge parking places but not all car parks are free, so you will need to check the charges board at that car park. The badge also allows you to park on the roadway in some areas where other people cannot park.
Details of where you can and cannot park are covered in the explanatory leaflet provided with the badge. The leaflet also explains how and where you can use your badge abroad.
See the Blue Badge Holders - parking page (Related Sections below) for further information.
The Blue Badge lasts for three years. A renewal form will automatically be sent out about one month before the badge is due to expire. It is the Blue Badge holder's responsibility to inform the County Council about any change of address since the badge was last issued.
If your blue badge is stolen, contact the Police and obtain an incident number. If your blue badge is lost, or stolen, contact the County Council for the appropriate form, there will be a charge for £2.00 for the Blue Badge replacement.
