Matty
“Hello, my name is Matty. I am three years and a bit, and I need a new adoptive family. I am affectionate and have lots of energy - I am very happy when I am outside where I can run around! I am also curious and interested in learning. I like drawing, looking at books and my electronic learning toys.
I love playing with my cars, and music and dancing, especially if I have an audience. I love cuddles and attention, but I don’t really like bedtime - I try to put it off. I have to go to bed in the end, though, and I sleep well. I go to nursery five mornings a week and join in all the activities. The nursery school staff are fond of me and very pleased with my progress. I also love sweeties, when I’m allowed them.” |

Matty’s foster mum says: “Matty has been with us since July 2006. He is a very happy little boy and likes a lot of comfort and cuddles. Like any child, Matty likes to get his own way, so he needs firm love, gentle handling and boundaries where necessary. He eats very well, so he has lots of energy and likes to run! Matty is very clever and loves to read, say his ABC’s and name things in pictures. His speech is very good and getting better. We are really enjoying looking after Matty as he is such a lovely child.”
Matty’s progress since he has been in foster care suggests that he will be able to learn and progress well educationally. He therefore needs to be given good opportunities to develop his potential. He needs adoptive parents who have plenty of time and energy and who can provide him with firm boundaries as well as warmth and affection. Matty is dual-heritage – Afro-Caribbean and White UK, and needs to be in an adoptive family where he will not stand out and where his ethnic and cultural background is reflected in some way.
Deanne
My name is Deanne. I am an 8 year old girl and I am waiting for a new adoptive family or long term foster family. I was born in Britain and my ethnic background is White British, Black American and Black Caribbean.
I go to a mainstream school and I like English - but need a bit more help with my maths. I really enjoy swimming and being outside. I can be quite shy with people I don’t know, but once I get to know you, I will become chattier. I make new friends easily - but have been known to be a bit bossy with my peers!
When I was very little, I saw some frightening stuff at home between my parents. I was also neglected and physically hurt. I have also lived with both sets of grandparents, so I have had a lot of disruption and unhappiness whilst growing up. Despite all that I’ve witnessed and been through, I don’t have any attachment difficulties and I have settled in really well with my current foster family.
I have maintained good relationships with my mum, brother and maternal grandmother and in my new adoptive home, I would want to keep my contact with them, and know that in a safe, loving, adoptive home, I would have the stability and support to reach my full potential and be truly happy.
Junior
My name is Junior and I am Deanne’s brother. I am 10 years old and I also want to be adopted or fostered long term. Because of what my sister and I have been through, we need separate adoptive homes so that we can get the individual attention and support that we need.
I was born in Britain and my ethnic background is White British, Black American and Black Caribbean. I am lively and cheeky, with a great sense of humour. I love watching football and am an avid Arsenal supporter! I also enjoy playing on my Playstation.
I am an excellent singer - my favourite singers being 50 Cent, Eminem and Bob Marley. I also enjoy beat box and break dancing. I am very easy to talk to and am enthusiastic about whatever I’m doing - which is really infectious!
Like my sister, I have also had a lot of disruption whilst growing up. I have witnessed domestic violence and my parents’ drug use. I have been physically hurt and neglected when I was with my parents and also when I lived with my paternal grandfather and step-grandmother.
Despite all the chaos in my life, I don’t have any attachment difficulties and I have settled in really well with my current foster family. Like my sister I have maintained good relationships with my mum, brother and maternal grandmother and in my new adoptive home, I would want to keep my contact with them.
With my foster family, I have demonstrated that I can follow rules and respond to clear boundaries, rewards and consequences - but I do struggle to do this at school. I attend a specialist school for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, so I’m in a small class with lots of adult support.
I find it hard to follow rules and sometimes it’s difficult to be kind to other children when I’m in school. I need to work on my swearing and I have lied at times - but I have learnt to respond to the consequences to this behaviour, and have shown that I can be trusted on many occasions.
I am very, very excited about having an adoptive family. I want parents who will care for me and who I can call mum and dad. It would also be great if they had Sky TV, liked football and had pets! In a strong, loving, adoptive home, I would have the support to help me manage my behaviour and to be happy and settled at last.
