Northamptonshire County Council's Youth Service works with young people aged 13 - 19.
We provide a wide range of activities, projects, and learning and social opportunities across Northamptonshire:
- Youth centres that provide a drop in facility several evenings a week, open to all young people
- Projects aimed at groups of young people who meet up on the streets, known as detached or outreach youth work
- Courses for young people to participate in such as babysitting, motorcycle maintenance, sports and arts.
Youth work helps young people to learn about themselves, others and society through non formal educational activities that combine enjoyment, challenge, learning and achievement. It is complementary to the world of formal education, providing social educational opportunities during young people’s leisure time.
Perhaps the most important aspect of a youth worker's role is that of making and maintaining relationships with the young people. It is when these relationships are formed and developed that the most learning takes place for young people.
The Northamptonshire County Council provides the Youth Service directly but it also commissions other youth work activities in partnership with the voluntary sector and other agencies.
These pages give details of the directly delivered Youth Service.
