There are many ways of conceptualising family support. Northamptonshire County Council Children and Young People's Service (CYPS) has identified two common features,
- Family support activities tend to identify and promote strengths in family members,
they tend to be implicitly or explicitly preventative in purpose
- Support to families strengthens their parenting capacity, improves family functioning and safeguards children from harm; ultimately achieving better outcomes for children.
Family Support services complement the Children and Young People's Partnership's (CYPP) commitment to the Every Child Matters, 5 Outcomes for Children.
