If you are concerned about the safety or welfare of a child, young person or an unborn child then there are a number of things you can do:
- Contact Us - details, addresses and maps of the Children & Young People's Service (CYPS) referral teams.
- You can make a referral directly to the NSPCC on tel: 0808 800 5000. See the link to the NSPCC website below.
- If you do not wish to give your name to the CYPS or NSPCC, you do not have to. If you do give your name, you can ask that your identity is not revealed to the parents/carer of the child concerned.
- If you are worried about a criminal offence against a child, or if you require an emergency response, you should contact the Police Child Protection Unit on tel: 01933 304420 within working hours (9:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday).
- Outside of normal working hours you should contact the Police directly on 08453 700700
All child protection enquiries receive high priority and there will be a prompt response (ie within a working day) by a social worker to investigate further and gather more information.
You can of course talk to any other professional - for example the child's teacher, GP, or health visitor about your concerns. Your referral will be treated equally seriously.
