We can provide you with copies of:
- birth certificates (full)
- death certificates
- most marriage and civil partnership certificates (except where the ceremony took place in a church)
where the event took place in the county of Northamptonshire.
How much does a copy certificate cost?
There is a statutory fee of £10 per copy plus £1.80 for post and packaging.
Marriages that took place in a church or place of worship
If you were married in a church or place of worship in Northamptonshire, please contact them first as they may still hold the register of your marriage. In this case they will need to provide the copy certificate. Copy certificates from a church or place of worship cost £7 each.
Apply for a copy certificate
The quickest and easiest way to request a copy certificate is to apply online. Our registration offices do not have facilities for providing copies.
Priority application service (birth and death certificates) – online orders only
We offer a priority service for online orders of birth and death certificates only for an additional £17 per order. This additional fee will be added to your online order when you select priority service.
Your online order must be received by us before 3:00pm for us to dispatch using first class post the next working day.
Any applications received after 3:00pm will be dispatched by first class post the day after the next working day.

Telephone our Customer Service Centre on 0300 126 1000. Please note there is an £2.00 handling fee charged for copy certificate orders made through the Customer Service Centre in addition to the statutory copy certificate fee and post and packaging.
When will I receive my copy?
Our aim is to produce all standard copy certificates within seven working days of receipt of an order. Copy certificates will be posted using 2nd class post on the day they are produced.
Please note: All certificates are crown copyright and cannot be photocopied.
Under The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, customers have the right to cancel a service under certain conditions.
In the case of an online, paper or telephone application for a copy certificate, the period between ordering and dispatch can be as short as a few hours and the information in the certificate is personal to an individual.
Any copy certificate order may be cancelled and refunded provided the cancellation is received in writing (email firstname.lastname@example.org) before the order has been dispatched.
Where an order is cancelled after it has been dispatched no refund will be made.
