Free internet access
We provide free internet access which allows our customers to search more online resources which may help with their research
No appointment is required to use this facility and it is completely free. We have four computers located in the reception foyer and two in the search room.
We also offer free access to Ancestry via the Library service which would otherwise require a membership fee.
The Record Office does not have free access to sites which may require a fee (with the exception of Ancestry) but customers are free to browse other relevant sites such as The National Archives and the GRO.
A stand-alone computer is also available in the reception area with a selection of useful CD Rom's such as: 'National Burial Index for England and Wales', 'Criminal Register Indexes 1805-1816' and 'Soldiers who died in the Great War 1914 1919'.
Printing
The computers are connected to a printer located at the reception desk. Customers are welcome to print from the computers for which a charge applies:
- 10p for black and white copies
- 20p for colour copies
Online catalogues
We are currently in the process of making many catalogues available online; this project is still on-going and will not be available until the end of 2010.
However, a small number of our catalogues are now available on-line through Access to Archives (A2A) which can be accessed through The National Archives website.
