You do not need to make an appointment to visit the Record Office - but it is often helpful if you let us know that you intend to come, especially if you want to consult original documents.
If you have a camera you can bring it with you to take photographs of the documents (there are some restrictions due to Copyright Law) after purchasing a permit from the reception desk. Permits cost £4.00 for the day or £15.00 for the week (a week is from Tuesday to Saturday inclusive.)
You will need to apply for a CARN ticket when you arrive, if you do not already have one which is still in date. Please ensure that you read the following page and bring suitable identification with you, if you need to obtain a CARN ticket.
Once you have your CARN ticket you will be asked to sign in. We have a number of rules that we ask you to observe whilst you are in the Records Office. Please read the rules and regulations below before you visit us.
